Remember the bodysuit? Fashion designer Donna Karan, who changed the way career women dressed in the 1980s, turns 60 today. Office dress codes have relaxed since then, but every workplace has its own rules. What passes for appropriate where you work? Is there anything you can't wear to work?

Is health care a right or a privilege to you?

I believe health care to only be a privilege, because people who "pay taxes," have jobs and whatever else anyone can think of do not always get health care.  People cannot always find health care, and when they can, it is normally not cheap at all, and then one has to find a plan that has a bunch of different things, or they'll end up with having to sign up with eight different insurance companies, or whatever.  Plus, look at the poverty-stricken areas.  East St. Louis, for example.  That place is a terrible living area, especially back in the day, but nothing has really gotten better.  There is toxic waste spilled all of the time because of the factories, sewage flows out every single spring, and kids' teeth are rotting out of their mouths and they just have to deal with the pain.  People get very sick and they cannot afford to go to even a clinic.  Kids cannot get dental care, because insurance, and such things similar, are not open to them because of how poverty stricken they are.  Health care is supposed to be looked at as a right, but health care never follows through to everyone.

So, I want to be a vampire for Halloween. Not the kind of mouth piece, falling out teeth, nor the dominatrix looking vampire, but an actual looking vampire. You know? The vampires that dress rather classy, but still have that sex appeal kind of thing?

I already bought this great shirt for it, or blouse rather. It is white with some ruffles, and has a high collar. I love it. :] It fits the part completely.

But, now I am completely unknowing about what my bottom should be, and how my hair should look, and everything. I've asked a few friends, and thus far, I'll probably dye my hair a dark colour (right now it is a goldish blonde) and keep it curly. I know that I will probably use dark eye make-up and probably some make-up to make me look paler than I already am if I cannot get my skin tone really white by Halloween.

So, here are some pictures in which I am kind of going for:

So, my AP American History class and I had to come up with a list of matters that would determine whether or not we'd vote for one person for president, or not... I do not believe in voting all too much anymore, since I have come to the reality that my vote wouldn't matter anyway, but it was a fun little thing to do. We each got two subjects, and we had to research them and talk about what we found out about how each of the candidates thought about the subjects. Well, after that was all done with, my teacher assigned us to write the list of what we came up with from what matters the most to us to what matters the least to us, just to see the differences between my fellow learners and I. Then, we had to take the first three and write about why they are the first three on our lists, and then we had to take the last two choices, and explain as to why they aren't so important.

Here is my list:

Gay Rights/Racial Views
Banks/Economy/Taxes
Environmental Conservation
Censorship
Animal Rights
Energy Savings
Abortion
Gun Control
Health Care
Education
Georgia/Russia
Patriot Act
Power Crisis
Death Penalty
Public Assistance - Medicare/Medicaid
Religion
Social Security
Stem Cell Research
National Security
Immigration

And here are my paragraphs:

Most important:

I put gay rights and racial views in the same category because I believe them to be rather similar. These matters are at the top of my list of issues that I care about because I have two best friends who are gay, and I believe that they should not be abused (verbally nor physically) just because a few people on this Earth believe that it is disgusting, wrong, and/or religiously incorrect. As for racial views, the same idea somewhat takes place in my mind. I believe that just because someone looks different than someone else, maybe even sounds different, that that person should not be held as a lesser. The colour of skin does not contribute to a person’s personality, and if it does, people should just accept the culture. Most black people of today’s society live in the United States… they come from the same place that practically everyone I know who is against different races come from! Even though this is all true, I am not just saying this about the basic whites against blacks thing; the statement is also for Iraqis who hate white people, or whatever other racial prejudice there is. But going back to gay rights, I believe that the intolerance for the homosexual individuals of this world is completely nonsensical, irrelevant to anything, and completely immature and pathetic. Heterosexuals didn’t have to have anyone vote on whether or not they could get married. I believe that people who are against gay marriage because of the sole reason of religion, especially, should be ashamed of themselves. One would think that religion would want to bring people closer together, create a sense of tolerance and love to all, but no, it’s God’s “will” that everyone believes the same thing. I am a very spiritual person; I have a God, and I pray a lot, but there is one difference: my God believes in rights for all, tolerance, love, and my God won’t damn me to some evil, hateful place if I am different from others. All in all, racism is lame and so is “homophobia.”

I put banks, economy and taxes in the same category because I believe that they all have a chain link, as well. The economy runs on the cash flow and the distributing of money to certain areas of what the American life counts on now a days. The cash flow is distributed by the Federal Reserve Bank in which puts its own government even into debt, since the money is loaned at interest. As Mayer Amschel Rothschild (founder of Rothschild Banking Dynasty) said, “Give me control of a nation’s money supply, and I care not who makes its laws.” Not to mention that George W. Bush’s great grandfather was an owner of the Federal Reserve Bank back in the day. As for taxes, the Federal Income Tax is completely unconstitutional. The tax is completely not apportioned (to divide and assign according to a plan; allot), in which according to the Constitution, a tax must be apportioned before being legal. Also, the required number of state votes in order to ratify the amendment was not reached and the “law” is not put into an amendment at all, meaning that it does not exist. So, the money that is being taken out of the paychecks of people all over the nation is actually used to pay back the interest of all of the government loans, in which goes straight into the pockets of the people who own the private Federal Reserve Bank. Also, the Federal Reserve Bank has been getting excited about wars and “conflicts” for years upon years because those mean that the government has to borrow even more money from the bank, in which leads to even more interest dues. I would like for our government to stop lying to its people and to take a stand against a bank that is controlling the every move of our society today; what the people of America have to rely on in order to survive.

Environmental conservation is the next topic on my list. I care about this topic greatly because the humans of today’s society are only contributing to the death and extinction of much wildlife and are creating an imbalance in what is the natural way of life for the earth. Because of human creation, the atmosphere is depleting and the seasons are becoming not as distinctive. There is global warming, which is not only creating a hard life for polar bears, but also is heightening the water level, which could put much land under water. Another reason for my worries is crab “fishing,” and other “hunts” for marine life. Because crabs, lobsters, and other marine life generally live at the bottom of the water masses, “fishermen” must use large cages and graze the bottom of water’s floor, in which demolishes the corale reef and creates crazed weather appearances. Every murder of an animal is breaking off a part of the natural way of life for all beings, and every murder of a tree is taking away a part of a habitat. In order to get the earth back to its natural state, a lot of “technology” must be ceased, or the government needs to force changes that will help the environment. If a person loses a job working at an oil refinery, that person could always get transferred to work on a corn field, or an environmentally friendly factory that produces a kind of oil out of corn, or something similar. Lots of things must change in order for the balance of life to be created again.

Least important:

National security is low on my list not because it is completely unimportant to me, but the fact that I just give up on it, really. The government is corrupt, and I do not know if I should trust it to protect me. With so much suspicion and facts roaming around, I doubt that I will ever look at the government the same as I did four years ago. Also, with our army allowing soldiers to punt puppies off cliffs and rape journalists, I do not believe that a lot of people are out to actually serve and protect, but to just kill and exploit. I do believe that there are people out there who want our country to just be peaceful and want to protect it, and I can look up to that, but majority rules that even cops are corrupt. More cops go around dealing drugs than fining/locking up people who are taking them. Why should I have hope in a government that must be changed?

Immigration is the last topic on my list, because if “illegal” immigration were actually real, the government would be truly “cracking down” on it. Also, there wouldn’t be documents that have been signed by the United States, Mexico and Canada stating that all three countries will become one, and possibly already are, without the public knowing. Immigration from non-illegal terms is okay, I believe, because the United States was founded by immigration from many different countries, and I do not see a point in changing it all too much. Yes, it is rather sad that white people may become a minourity, but who is anyone to judge on whether or not someone can become an American while one’s ancestours could have been immigrants?

Huh, so I've been really looking into politics lately.

I quite recently got this letter from one of our senators, because I e-mailed his office, telling him what I thought about animal testing:

Dear Ms.
Jones:

Thank you for contacting me to express your opposition to testing drugs and cosmetics on animals. I share your concern for the welfare of animals, and I am supportive of legislation to help our country move away from its use of animals in clinical tests.

Currently, animals are used for myriad scientific tests. Some of these, such as testing animals’ intelligence or observing their social interactions, are benign and contribute to scientists’ understanding of biology, psychology, and sociology. On the other hand, many tests done on animals are used to test chemicals for safety in use on humans. These “toxicity tests” can be painful for the animals: researchers expose animals to chemicals in order to discover under what circumstances a chemical is dangerous. It is a logical necessity in these tests that animals will suffer – in fact, the entire test is designed to learn when and how animals suffer.

Because animal testing is often inhumane and cannot guarantee benefits to humans, there is a movement to shift our regulatory agencies’ focus away from animal-safety tests to non-animal tests. I am fully supportive of this endeavor, and was strongly supportive of the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Validation of Alternative Methods Act of 2000, which established the federal agency charged with developing and certifying non-animal tests. I commend this agency’s important work, and I continue to support it through increased funding. I am hopeful that in the coming years, the ICCVAM will provide researchers with more effective, more humane tests.

Animal welfare is personally important to me. In the current Congress, I am a cosponsor of several bills to protect companion animals: S. 714, the Pet Safety and Protection Act; S. 1880, which would make dog-fighting a federal crime; and S. 2439, which would require the Federal Bureau of Investigation to track animal-cruelty crimes nationwide. I also strongly supported the Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act, which passed the Senate in April and is now federal law. I have also pushed the Appropriations Committee to provide funding to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to develop plans for evacuating pets during emergencies, such as should have happened in Hurricane Katrina.

In addition to protecting pets, I am also committed to promoting the safety and well-being of farm animals. I am a sponsor of S. 311, the Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, which would make it illegal to slaughter horses for human consumption. Working with the Humane Society of the United States, I have pushed for increased funding to enforce the laws which protect farm animals, including the Animal Welfare Act and the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act.

I have long believed that a society’s treatment of its most vulnerable members – including animals – is the best measure of its civilization. The protections that our nation affords animals are the mark of our collective humanity.

Again, thank you for contacting me on this important issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can ever be of help on this or any other matter.

Sincerely,

Charles E.
Schumer
United States Senator

He doesn't get it. We humans do not need animal testing. If we can clone and raise cloned dogs, then we can clone human tissues, and test on those. Dogs, rabbits, monkeys, and cats are primarily the ones to be tested on, and genetically, they all are so different from humans; even the monkeys, everyone. Animal testing is ridiculous. Animals should never be tortured "in the name of science." They shouldn't ever be tortured. I don't see animals going around, shooting people and whatnot; killing for some senseless cause... it just doesn't make any sense at all. Every species is so different from one another, that humans die because they take drugs that were tested on animals and called "all good." Shoving eyeliner into a rabbit's eye will not show a human how much that eye liner will hurt one's eye, or if that human will have an allergic reaction. Now, testing on animals to learn how they react with knowledge, and whatnot. Awww, how cute, a gorilla playing with some Legos on a table, sitting on a chair, in some secluded room... wtf?! Plus, does that gorilla get to then after go along and be with its family in the rain forest? No, it gets put in a cage and fed some leaves every once in a while.
Are you kiddi
ng me here, senator?

Also,
what have all of these organizations/Acts done lately? Does anyone know? Does anyone even care? I haven't seen much of anything going on, because things get passed, and then they do not get enforced. But, people do not question anything. They just go along, thinking that these things are going into action, though I can walk down the street each day, and find two adorable, little doggies running around in the road. -_- One more time that I find them in the road, I will either call some sort of animal services or I will take them and put them into loving homes, homes that do not want their cute, little doggies getting completely smooshed like road kill on the side of the road.
-_-

I feel like e-
mailing this Senator guy through his little website that he has again, but I'll just end up with 1) him thinking that people who support all life are just crazy, and ruin it for the animal front (because I'd be saying the same thing right here, and we all know politicians -- they don't give a fuck what I have to say, unless I start a HUGE thing up about it, and get many people into it), or 2) it'll give animal liberators a "bad name," because little, young me wants to question authority.

Is this truly
right? Should we all just go along with whatever the government says? No.

In celebration of Subliminal Communications Month, come up with your own message and a way to subliminally transmit it, then write about it.

Ha!

I believe that I'd go to the grocery store and buy some vegan food.

I mean, corn on the cob is delicious, and it is healthy.

I like to save money, and being vegan is also good for the animals.

I should do this subliminal messaging thing more often.

It's my first day of livejournal.

I normally just blog on MySpace
.

Hopefully this whole thing will be a bettre environment for blogging; I'm getting fed up with lame people who are obsessed with MySpace, and whatnot.

Well, I posted everything in my profile section that is about me, but just in case someone missed it:

I'm vegan, drug free, I like a lot of different music, I like to direct/film, I love to write, and I enjoy art.  :]

I am an activist and I like to express my views, opinions and common sense, and am open to conversation.

Right now, my mum just made eggs (she's vegetarian), and I feel like throwing up because the smell is getting to me.  >_<

I just started my senior year of high school a few days ago, and I cannot wait to be out on my own.

... and to open some sort of conversation:

I hate it when people use the word "then" for "than," and use the word "than" for "then."

Wrong:  It was harder then I thought.
Right:  It was harder than I thought.

Wrong:  I'm going to get some food, than to the mall.
Right:  I'm going to get some food, then to the mall
.

Seriously.
